Day 1
Geoje-do Prisoner of War Camp Historical Park 〉
Geoje-do Prisoner of War Camp Historical Park was established on the site of the Geoje-do POW camp, which was installed to house North Korean and Chinese prisoners of war captured during the Korean War. It accommodated up to 173,000 war prisoners and operated as the largest POW camp during the Korean War. Despite the tragedy of war, it was a paradoxical stage where efforts were made to uphold humanity according to the Geneva Convention. Within the park is the remaining POW camp site, designated as Gyeongsangnam-do Cultural Property No. 99 in 1983. The park uses various collections, records, and video materials to develop exhibitions and educational content, making it a living educational site on war history and a mecca of dark tourism.
Gujora Beach 〉
This beach has soft sand, a gentle slope, and water temperature conditions most suitable for swimming. It is an inland-type coastal area where you can experience a calm, lake-like atmosphere. On the west coast of the beach stands Yundol Island, associated with the legend of a filial son. Around the beach, there are shops selling local specialties such as anchovies and seaweed, sashimi restaurants, and guesthouses. At nearby Gujora Port, you can board sightseeing boats to Naedo, Oedo, and Haegeumgang. The area is popular with tourists due to many attractions such as Wahyeon Beach, Gujora Tourist Fishing Village, Geoje Fishing Folk Exhibition Hall, Oedo Botania, and Yundol Island.
Sinsundae 〉
Sinsundae is a large rock located by the sea in Dojangpo Village, Galgot-ri, Nambu-myeon, Geoje-si. It is called Sinsundae because it is said to be a place where immortals played. Sinsundae is a place with beautiful scenery including the surrounding coastal views and is also called Gatbawi (Hat Rock) due to its hat-like shape. There is a folk belief that if a person seeking a government position offers a ritual at this rock, their wish will come true. From the rock, you can see the far-reaching Dadohae scenery. Next to the rock is Hammok Beach, a small beach with pebbles, and on the hill of Dojangpo Village, there is the Sinsundae Observatory where visitors can enjoy an open view of the sea. The observatory is located on the right side of the road to Haegeumgang and is easily accessible by car.
Day 2
Tongyeong Cable Car 〉
The Tongyeong Cable Car, installed on Mireuksan in Tongyeong, is a bi-cable automatic circulating gondola system built with the latest Swiss technology, with a length of 1,975m. It takes about 9 minutes to reach the upper station at an average speed of 4 meters per second. There are 48 gondolas circulating, including 47 passenger gondolas and 1 cargo gondola. Especially due to its eco-friendly design, only one middle pylon is installed, which protects the environment and provides a very comfortable ride for passengers. Additionally, 47 eight-passenger gondolas continuously transport passengers without delay, allowing close companions to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Hallyeohaesang National Park intimately. With the opening of the pet-friendly cable car, it is now possible to ride with pets.
