Seoul Folk Flea Market was originally operated as a flea market or 'manmul market' representing Korea, centered around Hwanghak-dong before the restoration of Cheonggyecheon. The Hwanghak-dong flea market was formed with stores and streets selling old items and goods collected from all over the country. Along with the Cheonggyecheon restoration project, the Hwanghak-dong flea market, which operated as a street stall along Hwanghak-dong and Cheonggyecheon, relocated to the former Dongdaemun Stadium as the Dongdaemun Folk Flea Market. Later, as part of the park redevelopment project of the former Dongdaemun Stadium and to develop a representative folk market linked to the tourism industry, Seoul Folk Flea Market opened at Cheonggye 8-ga, on the former site of Sungin Girls' Middle School near Cheonggyecheon, aiming to be a world-class folk market and a new shopping destination. Seoul Folk Flea Market sells a variety of goods ranging from antiques, modern history products, traditional Korean items, daily miscellaneous goods, bags, to secondhand clothing. It is a distinctive market with various attractions, food, and entertainment all in one space, including a traditional household goods exhibition. Notably, it was selected as a 'Seoul Future Heritage' in 2015.
