Between Nam-gu Hyoja Station and the old Pohang Station, a 4.3km section of railway that operated for about 100 years was closed due to the KTX Pohang Station relocation in 2015 and transformed into an urban forest, a citizen-friendly space offering rest and enjoyment within the city. This urban forest features a bicycle path, a stream, an artificial waterfall, and sculptures. Approximately 4,800 trees, including king cherry trees, large old trees, zelkova, and metasequoia, are planted along the bicycle and walking paths, serving as the city's lungs by cooling the summer heat, reducing noise, and providing fresh air to enhance the quality of life for citizens. A stream runs along the walking path, and fountains and an artificial waterfall are installed, providing plenty to see without boredom. Where a four-lane road passes, an underpass titled "A Ferry Journey Creating Beautiful Memories" displays photos and history from the 1960s to the present. At night, not only residents resting or exercising but also couples on dates visit, making it a healing space in the city and a model case for future-oriented urban regeneration and green ecological city creation. During the creation of Pohang Cheolgil Forest, natural gas ignited at about 200m underground during well drilling and continues to burn. Initially expected to extinguish quickly, the flames persisted, leading to the establishment of Fire Garden, where events such as egg grilling and Pohang Cheolgil Forest night walks are held for citizens' enjoyment and rest. For decades, the waterway of Dongbin Inner Harbor was blocked, but Pohang City's ecological restoration project recovered the canal, restoring the old water route. A 1.3km section resembling a small stream was created from the mouth of the Hyeongsan River to Songdo Bridge. As the first canal constructed in the middle of a city in Korea, the Pohang Canal brought urban regeneration and ecological restoration. It has become a new tourist attraction featuring the food and shopping of Jukdo Market, Korea's largest traditional market, Dongbin Inner Harbor, Yeongildae Observatory, Songdo Beach, and the night view of POSCO. Pohang Canal Center manages and promotes the canal, consisting of a canal exhibition hall, observatory, canal operation office, and café. The exhibition hall permanently displays a photo exhibition of Pohang's modern and contemporary history and the canal’s construction process. From the fourth-floor observatory, you can see the Hyeongsan River and POSCO scenery. At night, the steelworks are illuminated, creating a romantic nightscape. After the cruise, it is recommended to visit nearby Yeongildae, Hwanho Park, and Pohang Large Market. Tickets are sold on the first floor of the Pohang Canal Center, and identification is required for boarding.

Completed in January 2014, Pohang Canal is a waterway connecting Dongbindaegyo Bridge and Hyeongsan River between Songdo-dong and Jukdo 1-dong in Pohang-si, with a total length of 1.3 km and 8 to 10 km when connected to the sea route. Restored from old waterways and ecological environments, it has transformed into a park and new tourist attraction for citizens. The canal is perfect for enjoying romance on cruises along the waterway flowing through the city and is also popular as a walking path. Pohang Canal is not an artificially made waterway but a restoration of a former waterway that naturally recreated the canal's appearance. In the late 1960s, during a national transformative period when Pohang urbanized and Pohang Steel was built, a small waterway connecting Dongbinnaehang and Hyeongsan River was reclaimed to create commercial and residential areas. Recently, this was restored by reopening the waterway and maintaining the surroundings, turning it into Pohang Canal and a recreation area. Alongside are walking paths and bike lanes for citizens to actively enjoy the space. The cooperation of residents and merchants who lived and worked on the waterway played a key role in the restoration, and the names of residents and merchants are inscribed on the wall at the canal's starting point, the Pohang Canal Hall.

Guryongpo Japanese Residential Street is where Japanese people came to live after the 1883 Korea-Japan Commercial Treaty. Japan built Guryongpo Port and managed the East Sea region, leading many Japanese fishermen to settle here and exploit the fishing rights of Koreans, marking a painful historical site. Currently, 47 Japanese-style wooden buildings remain in the village. In 2010, Pohang City established the 'Guryongpo Japanese Residential Street' as a field for historical education. Furusattoya, once a restaurant, is preserved inside exactly as it was and now operates as a teahouse offering various Japanese teas and yukata experiences. There is also Simsang Elementary School, where Japanese children studied, and a model mailbox made in the 1900s. The Guryongpo Modern Museum, converted from the house of Hashimoto Genkichi who immigrated during the Japanese colonial era, showcases Japanese-style buildings and lifestyle of the time. Nearby attractions include Gwamegi Culture Center and Guryongpo Columnar Joints. ◎ Travel information to experience the charm of the Korean Wave - This street served as the background for the drama , depicting the small, close-knit village Ongsan. Entering the street with Japanese wooden buildings feels like stepping back over 100 years. The fishing village view from the park stairs is so beautiful it won the top prize in the Korea Scenic Award, and the Guryongpo Modern History Hall reveals the lifestyle of Japanese residents at that time.
