The forest was originally planted as a windbreak against sea breezes in 1954 by students of Janghang Agricultural High School (currently Janghang Technical High School), who planted 2-year-old Korean red pines (Gomsong). Today, approximately 12,000 Gomsong (haesong) trees grow naturally. It was designated a National Forest Cultural Asset by the Korea Forest Service in 2019 and became a natural recreation forest in 2021.
