Geumgang Estuary Bank Tourist Site is a famous place to see migratory birds that visit the Geumgang Estuary Bank every year. The Geumgang Estuary Bank is a large-scale hydraulic facility built where the majestic Geumgang River meets the sea and widens its arms, also serving as a bridge connecting Chungnam Seocheon and Jeonbuk Gunsan. The vast reed fields and farmland at the Geumgang estuary host rare birds such as Baikal teal, mallard ducks, and black-headed gulls, along with tens of thousands of migratory birds, creating a magnificent sight. The scenery with morning mist is beautiful, and the view at sunset with the dusk is also superb. Even in seasons without migratory birds, travelers continue to visit to enjoy the abundant and leisurely scenery of the Geumgang estuary. The Geumgang Estuary Bank Tourist Site, consisting of Dreamland with play facilities like a four-season sledding hill, Viking ride, and carousel, Game World, and a drive-in theater, is well equipped with restaurants and parking lots, making it great for spending enjoyable time around the estuary. Especially, walking along the back trail to the observatory offers a panoramic view of the Geumgang estuary and opposite Gunsan. In front of the site along the riverside walking path, quaint cafes and Kim Injeon Park attract couples looking for a date spot. Many travelers also enjoy hiking along the adjacent bicycle path. Visitors can slowly walk the long riverside promenade along the Geumgang estuary, admire the sparkling riverside scenery under the sunlight, and walk a little further to visit the bird ecology exhibition hall.

Maryang Port in Seomyeon, Seocheon-gun, is located at a tip that juts out toward the sea, allowing visitors to see both the sunset and the sunrise due to its geographic position. Thus, Maryang-ri, where Maryang Port is located, is also called 'Maryangpo Sunrise Village.' Every year at the end of the year and New Year's, many tourists gather from all over the country to watch the sunset and sunrise. The breakwater at Maryang Port is a good fishing spot, and in the early morning at the Maryang Port fish market, you can see fishermen auctioning fresh seafood they just caught. Additionally, many festivals are held at Maryang Port: the Maryangpo Sunrise Festival in January, the Dongbaek Flower and Jjukkumi Festival in March, the Wild Flatfish and Sea Bream Festival in May, the Hansan Mosi Cultural Festival in June, the Chunjangdae Beach Summer Cultural Arts Festival in July, and the Hongwon Port Gizzard Shad and Flower Crab Festival in August, all offering plentiful sights and foods. Behind Maryang Port, there is a camellia forest with about 70 camellia trees boasting an age of over 500 years. In summer evenings, small concerts are often held at Maryang Port Plaza with LED-lit sculptures, creating a romantic atmosphere.

* 울창한 동백나무 숲을 만날 수 있는 곳 * 서천 팔경 중의 한 곳인 서면 마랑리 동백나무 숲은 천연기념물로 지정되어 있다. 이곳에는 5백여 년 수령의 동백나무 85주가 8,265㎡에 울창한 숲을 이루고 있다. 동백나무 숲에 가면 3월 하순부터 5월 초순까지 푸른 잎 사이에 수줍은 듯 피어있는 붉은 동백꽃을 마음껏 감상할 수 있으며, 정상에 있는 동백정에 올라가면 서해의 푸른 바다와 낙조의 아름다움을 한눈에 볼 수 있다. 특히, 바로 앞에 있는 섬인 오력도의 풍경과 어울린 바다의 모습은 한 폭의 동양화를 감상하는 듯한 즐거움을 준다.마량리 동백나무 숲 서쪽은 바람이 강하여 몇 그루만이 남아있고, 동쪽에는 70여 그루가 분포하고 있다. 차나무과에 속하는 동백나무는 키가 7m 까지 자라는 난대성 상록활엽수이지만 이곳의 동백나무는 강한 바람 때문에 키가 2m 내외이며, 옆으로 퍼져있다. 전설에 의하면 약 500년 전 마량의 수군첨사가 꿈에 바닷가에 있는 꽃뭉치를 많이 증식시키면 마을에 항상 웃음꽃이 피고 번영할 것이라는 계시를 받고 바닷가에 가보니 정말 꽃이 있어 증식시킨 것이라고 전해져 온다. 그 뒤 마을 사람들은 매년 음력 정월에 이곳에 모여서 고기가 많이 잡히고, 바다에서 무사하게 해달라고 비는 제사를 지내왔다고 한다. 현재 이 숲은 마을의 방풍림구실을 하고 있다. 또한 이 지역은 지구의 자전 공전과 함께 지리적 특수성으로 인해 서해안에서 일출과 일몰을 동시에 볼 수 있어 많은 인기를 얻고 있다. 마량리에는 큰 규모의 발전소가 있고 발전소의 뒷길을 따라 가다가 언덕 돌계단을 지나 잠시 올라가면 언덕 위에 동백정이란 누정(樓亭)이 있다. 이 언덕에 나는 동백나무는 그 사이에 약간의 거리를 두고 있고 나무모양은 원형에 가깝다. 이 동백나무숲은 방풍의 목적으로 심어졌다 하나 방풍의 기능을 찾아보기 어렵다. * 마량리 동백나무숲의 또다른 볼거리 동백정 * 마량리 동백나무숲은 서도초등학교에서 4.5㎞정도 떨어진 바닷가의 낮은 언덕에 위치하고 있다. 언덕에서 조금 더 올라가면 동백정(冬栢亭)이라는 아담한 정자가 있는데, 이곳에 80여 그루의 동백 나무가 흩어져 자라고 있다. 한편, 마량리 동백나무숲은 우리나라에서 몇 안되는 동백 나무숲으로서 동백나무가 자랄 수 있는 북쪽 한계선상에 위치하고 있어 식물 분포학적 가치가 높다. 또한 풍어제 및 전설을 간직하고 있는 숲으로서 문화적 가치도 높아 천연기념물로 지정·보호하고 있다. 동백나무는 차나무과에 속하는 나무로 우리나라를 비롯하여 일본·중국 등의 따뜻한 지방에 분포하고 있다. 우리나라에서는 남쪽해안이나 섬에서 자란다. 꽃은 이른 봄에 피는데, 매우 아름다우며 꽃이 피는 시기에따라 춘백(春栢), 추백(秋栢), 동백(冬栢)으로 부른다. 마량리 동백나무는 춘백(春栢) 상록활엽 교목으로, 잎이 두텁고 표면이 진한 녹색으로 광택이 있고 잎이 많이 빽빽하게 붙어 있어서 아름답게 보인다. 그 뿐만 아니라 늦겨울철부터 피어나는 붉은 꽃은 늦은 봄까지 만발하여 그 아름다움을 더해준다. * 용왕을 위해 제를 올르는 집, 마량당집 * 500여 년 전 이 마을 사람들은 뗏목을 타고, 바다에 나가 고기잡이를 하였는데 바다에 휩쓸려 돌아오지 못하는 일이 많았다. 그러던 중 남편과 자식을 잃은 한 노파가 그 앞바다에서 용이 승천하는 것을 보고 용왕을 잘 위해야 화를 면하리라 생각하게 되엇다. 백발노인의 현몽으로 해안사장에서 널에 들어있는 선황 다섯 분과 동백나무 씨앗을 얻어 선황은 신당에 모시고 동백나무 씨앗을 주변에 심었다. 동백나무 숲 85주가 무성하며, 매년 정월 초하룻날 당에 올라 초사흘날까지 제사를 지내온 것이 지금까지 전승되고 있으며, 그 후부터 고기잡이에서 화를 입지 않았다고 전해진다. 내용으로 제사는 선창제, 독경, 대잡이 , 마당제, 용와제, 거리제로 이어져 제사가 시작되기 수일전에 경비로 호당 쌀 한되씩 거두어 드리고 신당부근에 수십개의 어선깃발 풍어, 만선을 꽂고, 화주, 화장(선주의일을 도와주는사람), 당굴(대잡는 사람) 2~3명 등의 의상 준비 등 제반 준비가 끝낸다.

Muchangpo Beach, opened in 1928, was the first beach on the west coast of Korea. It features a 1.5 km sandy shore, water depths of 1 to 2 meters, a 50 m beach width, a water temperature of 22°C, and a slope of 4 degrees. Surrounded by dense pine forests, it offers visitors both beach and forest bathing experiences. The scenic beauty of its sea pines and peculiar rock formations enhances its charm. The area attracts many tourists annually due to opportunities for sea fishing and abundant groundwater. Notably, around the 1st and 15th days of the lunar calendar each month, a 1.5 km sea path opens from the beach to Seokdaedo Island, called the 'Miracle of Moses.' This phenomenon occurs when seawater recedes at low tide, exposing the sea floor. Visitors enjoy catching crabs and clams along this path. From the Muchangpo Observatory, located 50 meters from the beach entrance on a hill, visitors can take in the full view of this mysterious sea path. Inspired by the water-dividing phenomenon, a Mystery Sea Path Festival is held annually on lunar 1st and 15th days, featuring celebrity performances, torch fishing experiences, a torch parade along the sea path, as well as various hands-on activities such as bare-handed fishing, ecological trap fishing experiences, clam digging, and harvesting of snow crab sticks.

Galmaemot Martyrs' Shrine is a Catholic holy site and church located on the coast where the Gwanchoncheon River in Boryeong City flows into Cheonsuman Bay of the West Sea. Galmaemot, once a sandy beach, was the martyrdom site during the 1866 Byeongin Persecution for Bishop Antoine Daveluy, Father Martin Wiangmin, Father Pierre Ohmetre, and lay leaders Ruga Hwang Seokdu, Joseph Jang Jugi, along with many other Catholics. Since its martyrdom status was confirmed in 1927, it has been managed as a holy site. A martyr monument was erected in 1975, and in 1999 a church belonging to the Catholic Diocese of Daejeon was completed to welcome pilgrims. Recognized for its historical value, it was designated a Chungcheongnam-do monument in 2013. Today, in addition to the Sunday 08:00 Mass, pilgrims can attend reservation-only Masses at 11:30 every day except Monday. Overlooking the islands of the West Sea and Cheonsuman Bay, the site’s sunset is poignant and beautiful, evoking the noble sacrifice of the martyrs. Galmaemot Martyrs' Shrine is accessible via National Route 40 and Provincial Route 610, near the Seohaean Expressway’s Gwanchon and Daecheon ICs. Nearby are Ocheon Port, Boryeong Chungcheong Naval Fortress, Ocheon Market, Boryeong Embankment, Cheonbuk Port, and Boryeong Energy World.

Maensapji is located in Hakseong-ri, Boryeong-si. It features dinosaur footprint fossils believed to date back to the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era about 100 million years ago, attracting an increasing number of visitors for natural history research and field learning. The fossils were first discovered in April 2015 and include around ten circular dinosaur footprints about 30 cm in size. These provide valuable evidence that the entire southern Korean region was a habitat for dinosaurs during the Cretaceous period and hold high academic value for understanding the natural history of the Chungcheong region. Ocheon Port is a harbor located where the Gwangcheoncheon River flows into the West Sea's Cheonsuman Bay. Ocheon has historically been the center of life and livelihood for northern Boryeong, as it was once home to Boryeong Chungcheong Suyeongseong (naval command post). Although its former glory has faded over time, Ocheon Port still serves as a major fishing port in the Cheonsuman area. Situated deep within Cheonsuman, Ocheon Port benefits from excellent natural conditions that eliminate the need for separate shelter facilities like breakwaters. Therefore, many fishing boats are docked along the long pier extending without breakwaters along the coast. Visiting the nearby Ocheon Market offers a variety of seafood, notably scallops, a specialty rarely found elsewhere, and mussels about the size of an adult fist, which are also popular. From Ocheon Port Passenger Terminal, ferries operate to nearby islands such as Woldo and Yukdo. Ocheon Port is accessible via National Route 40 and Provincial Route 610, with the Seohaean Expressway’s Gwangcheon IC and Daecheon IC close by. Surrounding attractions include Boryeong Chungcheong Suyeongseong, Ocheon Market, Boryeong Embankment, Cheonbuk Port, Galmaemot Martyrdom Site, and Boryeong Energy World.

충청수영성(忠淸水營城)은 서해로 침입하는 외적을 막기위해 돌로 높이 쌓아올린 석성(石城)이다. 조선 중종 4년(1509) 수군절도사(水軍節度使) 이장생(李長生)이 축성, 충청수영(忠淸水營)의 외곽을 두른 1,650m의 장대한 성(城)으로 자라(鱉)모형의 지형을 이용 높은 곳에 치성(稚城) 또는 곡성을 두어 바다와 섬의 동정을 살폈고 해안방어의 요충지였다. 사방(四方)에 4대 성문(城門)과 소서문(少西門)을 두었고, 동헌을 비롯한 관아건물 영보정(永保亭), 관덕정(觀德亭), 대섭루(待燮樓), 능허각(凌虛閣), 고소대(姑蘇臺) 등이 있었으나 허물어졌고, 서문 망화문(望華門)과 건물로는 진휼청(賑恤廳), 장교청(將校廳), 공해관(控海館)이 보존되고 있다. 망화문은 화강석을 다듬어 아치(Arch)형으로 건립하여 발전된 석조예술을 볼 수 있으며, 오천항(鰲川港)은 백제때부터 중국과 교역하던 항구로서 회이포(回伊浦)라 불리었고, 고려시대에는 왜구를 물리치기 위하여 많은 군선(軍船)을 두었으며, 세조 12년(1466년)수영(水營)을 설치, 충청수군의 최고사령부로 서해안을 방어하였다. 충청수영성은 고종 33년(1896) 폐영(廢營)되었으며, 그 규모는 『세종실록지리지』 기록에 따르면 조선 초기 충청수영과 그 산하에 배속된 군선과 병력이 군선(軍船) 142척에 수군 수(水軍數)가 총 8,414명에 이르렀다고 한다.충청도 서해안 지역에 위치하여 한양으로 가는 조운선(漕運船)을 보호하고 왜구침탈을 방지했고, 근대에는 이양선을 감시하는 등의 역할을 했다. 선조 29년(1596), 충청수사 최호가 충청수영의 본영과 속진의 수군을 이끌고 남해 한산도에머물며 수군통제사 원균의 지휘를 받다가 이듬해인 선조 30년(1597) 7월 1일 일본군에 패하여 통제사 원균과 함께 전사했다. 또한, 충청수영성은 천수만 입구와 어우러지는 경관이 수려하여 조선시대 시인 묵객들의 발걸음이 잦았던 지역으로 성내의영보정이 유명했고, 서문 밖 갈마진두(渴馬津頭)는 충청수영의 군율 집행터로 병인박해(丙寅迫害) 때 천주교 신부 다섯 명이 순교한 곳이다.근대에 들어 도로개설이나 호안매립 등으로 인하여 훼손된 일부 구간을 제외하면 충청수영성은 나머지 성지(城址) 뿐만 아니라 그 주변 지형이 거의 원형을 유지하고 있으며 군사목적에서 마련된 충청지역 수군 지휘부로써 충남의 수군편제와 조직, 예하 충청지역 해로(海路) 요해처(要害處)에 배치되었던 수군진과의 영속 관계 등을 보여주는 귀중한 유적으로 역사적, 학술적 가치가 높다. 충남 제 3의 고봉인 오서산(790.7m)은 천수만 일대를 항해하는 배들에게 나침반 혹은 등대 구실을 하기에 예로부터 ''서해의 등대산''으로 불려왔다. 정상을 중심으로 약 2km의 주능선은 온통 억새밭으로 이루어져 억새산행지의 명소이기도 하다. 또, 오서산은 장항선 광천역에서 불과 4km의 거리에 위치, 열차를 이용한 산행 대상지로도 인기가 높다. 오서산은 까마귀와 까치들이 많이 서식해 산이름도 "까마귀 보금자리"로 불리어 왔으며 차령산맥이 서쪽으로 달려간 금북정맥의 최고봉. 그 안에 명찰인 정암사가 자리하고 있어 참배객이 끊이지 않는다. 한편 산 아래로는 질펀한 해안평야와 푸른 서해바다가 한 눈에 들어와 언제나 한적하고 조용한 분위기를 느낄 수 있다. 특히, 오서산 등산의 최고 백미는 7부 능선안부터 서해바다를 조망하는 상쾌함과 후련함이다. 정암사에서 정상까지 구간은 가파르면서 군데군데 바윗길이 자리해 약 1시간동안 산행 기분을 제대로 만끽할 수 있어 동호인들이나 가족등반객들에게 인기가 높다. 산 정상에서는 수채화처럼 펼쳐진 서해의 망망대해 수평선과 섬자락들을 관망할 수 있다. 정암사는 고려때 대운대사가 창건한 고찰로 주변은 온통 수백년생 느티나무가 숲을 이루고 있다.
